Top 5 Themes of Chiron in Taurus

On June 19 Chiron moves into Taurus after being in Aries since 2018. Chiron is a dwarf planet discovered in 1977, located between Saturn and Uranus. As such he is a bridge between the planets we can see with the naked eye, representing known boundaries, and the outer planets, which represent generational and cosmic influences. In mythology Chiron is an immortal centaur who is taught medicine and healing, and who helps many with his gifts.  However, he himself becomes wounded with a poison arrow. His suffering is so great he asks for death, and Jupiter grants him his wish but places the constellation Sagittarius in the sky in honour of him. Chiron's story shows that he represents our wounds, especially those we receive when we are young, but also our ability to heal them and in doing so to help others.

Chiron's orbit is elliptical, so he spends more time in some signs than others. Chiron's orbit lasts about 51 years, so at this age we get our "Chiron return". This marks a time when we are asked to reflect on the past and heal any unresolved issues from when we were younger. For those born from 1976 - 1984 (give or take a few months due to retrogrades on the beginning and end of this period) this transit marks the start of your Chiron return. He will be in Taurus until 2034, except for when he retrogrades back into Aries from Sept 17, 2026 until he moves into Taurus for good on April 14, 2027. This summer we get a preview, a trailer if you will, of what the next 8 years of Chiron in Taurus will bring us. Here are some themes I expect to see.

  1. Financial Issues. While Chiron in Aries highlighted issues around identity and identity politics, the next few years will focus heavily on finances and the gap between the ultra-rich and everyone else. Class dynamics between the haves and the have-nots will become more prominent. The last two times Chiron was in Taurus was from 1926 - 1933 and 1976 -1984. The late twenties and early thirties saw the excess of the roaring twenties come crashing down and the beginning of the Great Depression. It also saw the rise of socialism and the New Deal. The late seventies and early eighties saw the oil crisis, and the rise of Reagan and Thatcher with its trickle down economics and union busting. I expect to see some of these themes to repeat again. How can we heal our economy so it serves everyone and not just those at the very top?

  2. Reassessment of Values. While the Chiron in Aries period was marked by identity politics and some over identifying with narrow categories, this era may see a focus on materialism, with some mistaking their worth for the number in their bank account. Chiron invites us to heal an old wound, but some will refuse the invitation and get caught up in defending it. There will be some who confuse material riches with inner wealth and end up wondering why they feel empty and alone. Think of the Great Gatsby from a previous Chiron in Taurus period. For those that meet the challenge, there will be a reassessment of where they spend their time, money and energy. Simplifying things and focusing on what is most important rather than on trying to keep up with the Jones' or the Kardashians will serve one better.

  3. Reallocation of Resources. Taurus rules the material realm including natural resources. Not only are we seeing a widening gap between the ultra-rich and everyone else when it comes to finances, we also see a grab for natural resources. Billionaires are trying to grab land, water and electricity to fund their mega data centers and we see communities fighting back. In the US protected areas are being sold for forestry and mining. There is a sense that natural resources which should be for everyone and managed well is becoming gobbled up to serve the few. One of the tasks of this time period is to fight for a more even distribution of wealth and natural resources so that we can all benefit for generations to come.

  4. The Material World vs the Digital. When Pluto moved into Aquarius in 2023 we saw the rise of AI and robotic and surveillance technology. This is the age of the tech oligarchs, but it is important to remember that Pluto in Aquarius also brings rebellion and revolution. The first few years of Chiron in Taurus will see Chiron making a square to Pluto, showing tensions between the material realm and the emerging digital technologies. Already we see communities fighting back against large data centers and their environmental and health impacts. We will also see a tension between those who value handmade goods and physical media, and those who embrace AI and want it to take over.

  5. A Focus on the Environment. Chiron in Taurus asks us to get back to nature and to find healing in the natural world. The last two Chiron in Taurus periods saw the creation of the National Park system in the 1920s and 30s, and a greater emerging environmental movement of the 1970s and 80s. I expect to see an increasing awareness of the environmental impact we are having on the earth and people wanting to foster a greater connection with the natural world around them.

The next few months will give us a preview of the themes of Chiron in Taurus. We will see how they play out and if some come into focus more than others. In our own lives we are asked to heal issues around scarcity, finances and any beliefs of lack or worthiness. This is a good time to take stock of our values and how we spend our time, money and energy. Do they match our values or do we need to realign? This is also a time to get in touch with nature, making things with our hands and enjoying the physical realm. This is also a time when we may be asked to become more involved with community issues around resources, the environment or social welfare.
