On Thursday September 10 we have a New Moon at 18 degrees of Virgo. This is the first lunation since the eclipses of last month, so officially ends "eclipse season". Eclipses bring dramatic events and changes, so a return to the normal lunar cycle is a welcome change. New Moons are a great time to set intentions as both the Sun and Moon are in the same sign, in this case Virgo. Virgo is an earth sign ruled by Mercury, so is both practical and intelligent. With the New Moon in this sign, it is a good time to make goals around day-to-day issues and learning. Virgo is also associated with health, so goals around fitness, nutrition, healthy routines and mental health are all favoured now. This is also a good time for setting goals around education or searching for employment. The New Moon in Virgo is great for back-to-school energy and setting up new routines to support you throughout the rest of the year.

This New Moon does not have any close aspects to the other planets, but that does not mean that nothing else is happening. On this day we have two planets changing signs - Mercury into Libra and Venus into Scorpio. Mercury is the planet of communication and transportation and in Libra this favours diplomacy and cooperation. The next few weeks are great for harmonious communication, resolving disputes and for one-on-one connection. This is also a good time to work with others on intellectual or writing projects, and for a romantic getaway or a trip to experience culture and art.
The other planet changing signs is Venus, the planet of love and beauty, moves into mysterious and transformative Scorpio. Venus in Scorpio has a love of all things spooky and dark. Think goth or vampy looks and Halloween decor. That is the fun side of Venus in Scorpio, but this transit can also be intense, bringing up power issues, obsession and jealousy. Venus in Scorpio wants to dig down deep into underlying issues and can bring up troubling things from the past or issues we may not want to confront. With Venus going retrograde later this fall, any issues brought up now may return to be reviewed again later this autumn.
If that wasn't enough, we also have Uranus stationing retrograde at 5 degrees of Gemini on the same day! The outer planets' retrograde periods are not felt as much as the personal planets, but we feel it more at the stations, especially in the outer world. Uranus us about chaos, inspiration and technology. In Gemini, Uranus often highlights communication and transportation technology. Think computers, drones, self-driving cars, social media, AI etc. I expect to see these as themes in the news, especially themes around regulations of these technologies. During the next few months, we will be collectively reviewing these new technologies and thinking about how we want to use or not use them.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is "A Swimming Race". This symbol speaks to competition and how we can see ourselves as competing against others, or even better competing against ourselves and striving to do better. When we focus on improving ourselves, we are the ones in control, and we will benefit every time. If we make it about comparing ourselves to others, then we are at the mercy of others and will always find someone who we think is better and end up feeling like a failure. This is an excellent metaphor for this New Moon where we are asked to set goals for day-to-day routines and around wellness. When we focus on setting our own individual goals and not comparing ourselves to others we will always win.
