New Moon in Libra - Conforming vs Self Expression

 On Tuesday October 21 we have a New Moon at 28 degrees of Libra. New Moons are the start of the lunar cycle that lasts 28 days. Over the next two weeks the Moon will grow in the sky until it reaches its apex at the Full Moon. It will then enter the waning part of the cycle as it decreases over the following two weeks, until it again disappears at the New Moon and we begin the cycle again. The first two weeks that start with the New Moon and end with the Full Moon is the waxing part of the cycle and is a great time to do magic for growth, increase, and to bring blessings and healing. This is one of the reasons we set goals and intentions at the New Moon as it is a good time to plant a metaphorical seed that will grow with the Moon over the next 14 days.

New Moons are also when the Sun and Moon are in the same sign, so both lunar and solar energies are working together in harmony. Because of this it is a good time to set goals that align with the sign the New Moon is in. Libra is a sign ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty, so any goals around romance, beautifying yourself, your home or making art are fortuitous now. Libra also is a sign of harmony, diplomacy and justice so it is a good time to set goals around bringing peace or justice to a difficult situation and finding harmony between enemies. Setting goals around creative or business partnerships are also ideal now.

This Libra New Moon has some challenging aspects as it is opposite Chiron and square Pluto. Chiron is often referred to as the wounded healer, as it shows us where we have been hurt, but also how we can help and heal others. Our biggest wounds can with healing become our biggest strengths. Oppositions usually show up as outside events that challenge us in some fashion. Chiron in Aries may bring up issues around our identity or self expression. The outside would is going to challenge our sense of balance and harmony in relationships by bringing up some old issues for healing. This is further challenged by the square to Pluto in Aquarius, as squares speak of internal tension. Pluto in Aquarius is about the power of the collective and of technology. Expect this New Moon to challenge our sense of identity and self expression against our relationships and the peer pressure to conform, especially when it comes to things like social media. How do we find the courage to express ourselves while still being part of the group and keeping harmony in relationships? This is the question being asked now.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is "A Circular Path." This symbol perhaps holds the answer to the dilemma that the aspects of this New Moon brings. It speaks of following the rhythms of our life and of nature rather than fighting against it. There are going to be seasons of our life that are quiet, and ones with more activity. There are going to be times when we are alone and times where we are in relationship. The key is to not fight against the current, but to move with it. If events bring up old wounds or we feel a sense of discomfort, rather than fighting it, we need to ask ourselves what is being brought to our attention to heal. How can we react in new ways and not fall back on old outdated habits. These questions can help us navigate this time and bring fresh insight to old issues.

Lunar Eclipse in Libra - Old Secrets Revealed

On Monday March 25 we have the first eclipse of 2024 at 5 degrees of Libra. This eclipse is a lunar eclipse, which is when the shadow of the Earth blocks the rays of the Sun reflecting on the Moon. This creates a reddish hue to the Moon, giving the name “blood moon” to lunar eclipses. Eclipses are not just dramatic to view, but have also been known to cause drama in our lives. This is not only on the day of the eclipse but also the week or two leading up to and after the eclipse season. Eclipses always come in pairs, with a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse coming two weeks apart (sometimes a solar will precede a lunar or vice versa). This creates a four week time where events can take a dramatic turn. This of course depends on where the eclipses appear in your chart. Those with strong aspects to the eclipse, will feel the affects more than those that do not.

Solar eclipses bring dramatic beginnings and endings, while lunar eclipses bring hidden things to light. As this is a lunar eclipse on the South Node, its all about the past and karma, so expect some old secrets to come out in the next couple of weeks. Keep your ears and eyes peeled as you may learn some surprising information, and if you have been hiding something, prepare for it to possibly be revealed now. Aries – This lunar eclipse is in your seventh house of partnerships. If you or your partner has been keeping a secret, you can expect it to be exposed now. If you are both honest and faithful, then you have nothing to worry about. You may find out some information about their past that you did not know, which does not have to be a bad thing, sometimes it can come as a pleasant surprise. You never know what you might learn. This doesn’t just apply to romance, this could apply to any partnerships including business ones.

 

Taurus – This eclipse is in the sixth house of daily routines, health and pets. You may find out some surprising health information now. This could be the missing piece of the puzzle you were looking for that can help put you on track towards healing. You also may undergo a reevaluation of you daily routine and reassess how you are spending your time. Are you putting time into the things that truly matter most? Its time to re-prioritize and reschedule things. You may also receive some surprising news about a pet.

 

Gemini – Changes to how you spend your free time, to hobbies and creative time are on the horizon. You may also find out new information regarding a child in your life. Cancer – The lunar eclipse occurs in the area governing family, lineage and home. Family secrets and ancestral information may come to light now. It’s a great time to do some genealogical research, as you may be surprised at what you uncover. New information may also come up around your home or property, or you may move residences or experience a change in your living satiation. It is also possible that there is a change occurring in your parents’ lives now.

 

Leo –  This eclipse season brings changes to how you communicate with others. You may decide to learn a language, or change the way you interact on social media. Its also a great time to start writing a book or any other writing project. This eclipse may also bring surprise information about a sibling or close friend. You never know what interesting things you may learn now. Expect there to be a lot of gossip going around over the next few weeks.

 

Virgo – Financial issues are highlighted for you now. Surprising news about your finances and changes in this area are likely. This is neither good or bad, as it can go either way now. You may have to join forces with someone else or have to reassess how you are earning or spending money. You are being asked to look at your values and examine if your finances are matching up with what you say is important to you.

 

Libra – Changes to the way you present yourself, your identity and self-image will come up over this eclipse season. Do you need to discard any outdated clothes or any stories that you tell about yourself? You may hear some surprising things about the way others see you as opposed with how you see yourself. This can be a great time for self-revelation and  to revamp your style. It’s time to look at this as a new chapter and embrace a new vision of yourself.

 

Scorpio - This lunar eclipse may not appear very dramatic on the outside, but it can be a time of inner turmoil and change for you. The eclipse is in your twelfth house of the subconscious and the shadow. Some difficult truths and inner insights are bubbling up for you now. It is helpful to spend this time in introspection in order to process these new revelations. The twelfth house also rules institutions like hospitals and prisons, so if you work for or are involved with a large institution, some surprising information may come out over the next few weeks.

 

Sagittarius - The lunar eclipse is in your eleventh house of friends and community. Lunar eclipses can bring secrets to light so you may hear some surprising things about your friends, or those around you may be making some big changes in their life. If a community has been keeping secrets or trying to hide something, the lid will likely get blown off now. This can also be a time when an enemy is revealed as the eleventh house is also about open enemies. That or a long time enemy may get some karmic come back.

 

Capricorn - Your tenth house of career and public image is being affected by this lunar eclipse. Changes are coming to this area, and you may decide to switch careers entirely or change your focus or direction. New ideas, inspiration or information are coming your way, and it could shake up the way you are doing things. You may also revamp your public image, or if you have a business your branding or find yourself pivoting in a new direction.

 

Aquarius - The lunar eclipse brings hidden information to light and for you this will be in areas like higher education, travel, religion or philosophy. You may also receive new information if you are involved in a legal dispute or waiting on an official legal decision. This is a good time to re-evaluate long term goals, especially if you are considering relocating to another place or taking a long trip. You may also have a change of heart about an educational path you are taking, either going back to school, or changing your current educational path entirely.

 

Pisces - Expect changes and new information about any investments you hold or debts you owe. Any joint property or assets are highlighted now and may be in for changes as you learn some valuable information. This could be good or bad depending, but either way, don’t make any sudden decisions now. Wait until after the eclipse season is over, in about a month, and consider things carefully. Secrets surrounding topics like sex and deeper psychology or spirituality may also come to light . You may even have a psychological breakthrough of your own. Also secrets held by those who have passed on may be revealed unexpectedly.

 

Eclipses are always a time of change and upheaval, but they affect everyone differently, and as stated above, some will be more affect you personally more than others. Eclipses are not to be feared though, as they are a way or realigning ourselves. The eclipse will put you back on track in the area it occurs in your chart. For some people that may mean small changes, and others big ones. During these times, it is best to go with the flow, rather than trying to fight it.

Venus in Libra - Healing Through Beauty

 

On Wednesday November 08, Venus the planet of love and beauty enters her home sign of Libra, where she will be until December 04. Libra is a sign that is about balance, harmony, partnership and beauty, so it’s no wonder that Venus feels great when she is in this sign. When Venus is in Libra we are inclined to be more conciliatory with others and to focus on working together towards a common goal. This is a great time for partnership and romance as we are focused on the “we” rather than the “me” and are inclined to see the other person’s perspective better. There is an emphasis on finding the beauty in the other and wanting to have everything go smoothly. Libra likes things to be balanced, so Venus in this placement does not like it when things are upsetting or in conflict. This is not just for romantic partnerships, but any in our lives, whether it be friendship, family or co-workers. We want others to get along and it can make us feel unbalanced and ungrounded when there is any discord. As we are all aware, things have been very difficult for many throughout the world this past month, so I am hoping that the energy of Venus in Libra will help to bring a more conciliatory tone. One downside to this placement is that sometimes we are so focused on the other, that we compromise too much of ourselves.

The other emphasis of Venus in Libra is on beauty and the arts. Venus’ other home sign, Taurus, is all about the beauty of nature. Libra is about human made beauty, like art, music, architecture, and home or garden décor. The next few weeks are a great time to indulge in the creative arts, whether making something or decorating for the holidays, or by getting out and enjoying art. This is a wonderful time to go to an art gallery, attend a concert or to shop for clothes. It’s also a great time to get a beauty treatment, go to the spa, or get your hair done. Even amidst challenges and difficulty, we all need beauty and creativity to help lift up our souls and to help us to stay optimistic. As long as we are not in denial of our difficulties, then a little escapism into beauty can be okay.

Venus has some healing aspects this month as she travels through the sign of Libra. On November 15 she makes a sextile to Mercury in Sagittarius. This gives us an opportunity to have some pleasant conversations and is a great time for creative writing or for planning an event like a party or a show. On November 22 Venus is opposite Chiron, which can confront us with some issues that need healing, specifically around issues of beauty, creativity, or femininity. While initially unsettling, this situation presents us with an opportunity to heal and work through these issues.

My hope is that this positive placement of Venus in Libra for the rest of November can help to balance some of the more difficult energies and help us smooth out and adjust to any of the changes brought on by the eclipses in October. Venus invites us to bring harmony and balance to our relationships, and to bring more beauty and creativity into our environments this month.

 

 

Mercury in Libra - Diplomatic Communication

 I've decided to revamp my blog after an absence of several months. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it, but after giving it a fair bit of thought, I have decided to focus on astrology. I want to focus each week on a major aspect, planetary sign shift, or astrology topic. If there are any topics you'd like me to cover, please let me know if the comments below.

Today's topic is Mercury in Libra. On August 30, 2021 Mercury moves into the sign of Libra where he will stay for a longer than usual amount of time due to a retrograde period from September 27 - October 18, 2021. He finally moves out of Libra, into Scorpio on November 05, 2021. So this energy will be with us for two months. 

 Mercury in Libra

Mercury is the planet of communication, travel and the mind. When he moves into the sign of the scales, communication becomes more diplomatic, and people want to talk more about partnerships, romance, the arts, and beauty. It's a good time to make plans for renovations, beauty treatments, weddings, and creative projects. If you know your astrology birth chart, look to your Libra house to see where this energy will be showing up for you over the next two months. 

Even if you do not know your chart, generally this period is a good one for communicating with partners. This can be romantic partners, business or creative partnerships. Its a period where compromise and coming to fair and equal decisions are highlighted. The down side of Mercury in Libra is it can lead to passive aggressiveness, rather than confronting others directly, as there is a temptation to avoid conflict. This can also lead to over compromising in an effort to smooth things out, which one can regret later. It's good to try to be fair and diplomatic, but make sure you are not compromising yourself. 

This extended Mercury period will see some aspects with the slower moving planets repeat themselves three times, once as Mercury moves forward direct through Libra, once again during the retrograde (where he appears to move backwards), and then again as Mercury moves forward direct again.

Mercury square Pluto - Squares are stressful aspects which create internal tension. There can be uncomfortable communications with those in power (Pluto) or with those you may have some power over.  Expect difficult insights to arise around issues of mortality, leadership, and structures in our lives. Mercury in Libra wants to smooth over these topics and doesn't want to talk about them, but Pluto is compelling us to do so.

Mercury opposite Chiron - Oppositions are also stressful aspects, but rather than showing up as tension, they often show up as outside forces or events that challenge us to find a balance, or to make a clear choice. Chiron is the wounded healer, who is presently in Aries, the sign of self identity. Some of the compromises we are being asked to make may bring up old wounds to our sense of self from when we were younger and challenge our ego and identity. Do we choose to find a balance between our partner and self, or do we completely give in or walk away entirely? Whatever our decision, Chiron asks us to approach old wounds with new and better behaviors. 

Mercury trine Saturn - It's not all challenging news for this period. Trines are helpful and supportive aspects that bring ease and opportunities. Saturn in Aquarius has been asking us to create rules and boundaries around community and to be responsible to the good of the whole. It is a good time to talk about our long term plans and what kind of rules we want in place to make society better for everyone. And Mercury in Libra makes us better listeners to another person's point of view, which can help us make things more equitable for everyone.
