Full Moon in Capricorn - Consider Your Ambitions

We have a Full Moon on Friday June 21, the day after the Summer Solstice. Full Moons occur when the Sun and Moon are in opposite signs, and with the Sun just moving into Cancer the day before, the Moon will be at 1 degree of Capricorn now. Full Moons are a time of heightened emotions as the Moon, which represents emotions and the subconscious, is at her height. The Sun is now in watery and emotional Cancer, turning our focus to the home, family, memory, and the imagination for the next four weeks. While the Moon in Capricorn wants us to be ambitious and to not forget that we have work to accomplish in the world. Capricorn Full Moons are a time when we are asked to look at our career goals and see if they feed our heart. How can we find a good balance between work and home, between our emotional self-care and the need for outer accomplishment?

Moonology Oracle

This Full Moon is squaring Neptune in late Pisces. Neptune is a planet that signifies spirituality and a sense of oneness, but can also represent fantasy and delusion. Squares are a stressful aspect, so Neptune leans towards the delusional and even deceptive now. There is something about our desires that is fanciful and not grounded in reality, or we may be basing our beliefs on a falsehood. Watch for misinformation and disinformation in the news, especially around issues of borders, homelands, ancestry and the past. If something seems to be outrageous, or angers you, remember that it may be a falsehood. Wait for the fog to clear and you will have a better view of how things really are. This is not a good time to make any hasty decisions.

Another aspect on this day is Mercury in Cancer sextile Mars in Taurus. Mercury is communication and travel and in the sign of Cancer he wants to talk about feelings and memories of the past. Mars is action, desire and aggression. In earthy Taurus he is all about slow and steady determination. This is a great time to think about long term goals and ambitions and to make plans that resonate with your heart. There is no need to rush with Mars in Taurus, and with the foggy aspect of Sun and Moon square Neptune, there is a lack of clarity. However, there is nothing wrong with dreaming and planning. Just remember that you may need to revise your plans with more practical details later.

The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is “A Chief Demands Recognition.” This symbol talks about how we sometimes need to stand up and be in our power. We need to communicate clearly our desires and not make ourselves small to please others. It also asks us to look at who we give power and authority to. In the world we may see new leaders emerge or upstarts try to overthrow things. It is a good time to examine power dynamics and ask who is a true leader and someone we can look up to and who is a blow hard just trying to bully and control things.

Overall this Full Moon asks us to look at ambition. Do our goals and desires satisfy our hearts? Do they support our inner world and our home life? Are they based on reality, or a fantasy? These are all things to consider this Capricorn Full Moon.

New Moon in Aquarius - Healing and Transformation

On Friday February 09, 2024, we have a New Moon at 20 degrees of Aquarius. New Moons occur when the Sun and Moon are in the same sign together, so are a great time to set intentions, as the Sun is our consciousness and focus, and the Moon our emotions and subconscious. The sign of Aquarius is a forward thinking and humanitarian sign, it is also inventive and loves the unusual and avant garde and the rebellious. This is a great time to set intentions around larger humanitarian issues, global issues, or any new creative or intellectual projects. This is also a good time to focus on friendships and community involvement as Aquarius also rules these issues.

Moonology Manifestation Oracle

The Aquarius New Moon is sextile Chiron in Aries, so provides us with an opportunity to heal some of our old wounds about being seen for the unique individuals we are. How do we maintain our individuality while being part of a larger community? It is also forming a square with Uranus in Aries, which points to being challenged by sudden changes and disruptions in the world around us. How can we roll with the changes and adapt to a rapidly changing world. Me might feel like thins are moving too fast and want things to slow down so we can find our footing and stay grounded.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “A Woman Disappointed and Disillusioned.”  This Sabian Symbol speaks to not letting pessimism take hold when faced with difficulties and disappointment. It can be easy to lose our courage and hope when we have been let down. With the aspects of this New Moon there may be developments that leave us discouraged, but we are being asked to keep optimistic and carry on even in the face of these. We are asked to think of the long term, after all Pluto will be in Aquarius for the next two decades and a lot can happen in that time.

Pluto in Aquarius - A New Age of Revolution

This Saturday January 20th Pluto the planet of death, transformation and power moves from Capricorn, where he’s been since 2008, into the sign of Aquarius. Pluto moves very slowly around the zodiac, taking 248 to journey all the way around the Sun. Being such a slow moving planet, his movement into a new sign denotes a new era. Being a slow moving outer planet, Pluto only moves a couple of degrees a year, and spends almost half the year in retrograde, giving him a two steps forward, one step back progression. Because of this, there is often a little bit of back and forth between the old sign and the new one. Last year Pluto spent May and June in the sign of Aquarius before stepping back into Capricorn, giving us a sneak peak at some of the coming attractions. This year he will dip back into Capricorn to do a final clean up from September 1 – November 19, before moving finally into Aquarius until 2043.

Astro Codes Oracle

Last year I wrote about what themes I thought Pluto might be bringing us in the new Aquarius era, which you can read here. In this post I talk more about these themes now that we have had a bit of a preview last year of what is to come.  This ingress into Aquarius is one to take note of because it happens on the same day as the Sun moves into Aquarius too, making the two planets conjunct each other. Take note of what happens on this day in the world and in your life as they are denoting some of the changes and themes of this new era. Below are some of the themes I am expecting to see in the Pluto in Aquarius years. Keep in mind that Pluto will be in Aquarius from now (except for a brief dip back into Capricorn as noted above) until 2043, so these are not overnight changes, but themes that will play out over time.

Fear of Technology  – Last year Chat GPT was all the rage and everyone was talking about AI and its potential gifts and dangers. Then almost overnight, when Pluto went back into Capricorn, most people’s interest started to wain and Chat GPT usage dropped off. Now that Pluto is moving back into Aquarius, I expect the talk about AI, including the fears of where they may lead us, to pick up again. The sign Pluto is in shows us what we fear. When Pluto was in Leo (1938 – 1957) we feared nuclear destruction, in Scorpio (1984 – 1995) it was sex because of AIDS and we also had the Satanic Panic. In Capricorn (2008 – 2023) it was banks, governments and borders. Now in Aquarius we fear that it is technology itself that will turn on us and kill us. There is a recognition that much like the monster in Frankenstein, our creations can get out of control and do more harm than good.

Space and Air Travel – Aquarius is an air sign that is also associated with technology and outer space. Last year during Pluto’s brief sojourn into Aquarius, talk about UAPs (UFOs) was in the news. The US government held hearings into the phenomenon and a whistle blower came forward saying that different government agencies an military departments were hiding information. Whatever these things objects are and whether or not information is being hidden from us, talk about what is going on in the sky will increase. We also had stories about Chinese spy balloons, and multi billionaires launching rockets into space. The last Pluto in Aquarius era (1778 – 1798) saw the invention of the hot air balloon and the first balloon used in a battle for reconnaissance. I expect drones to become more of a common technology and improvements in space and even air travel over the next 20 years.

Scientific Discoveries and Inventions – Pluto and Aquarius eras tend to be times of breakthrough and discoveries and inventions with far reaching consequences. As already noted, AI is one such invention that may completely upend our lives and societies. And who knows what other developments the next couple of decades have in store for us. The last Pluto in Aquarius eras saw the invention of the steam engine, which led to the Industrial Revolution, which in turn had far reaching consequences across the globe. It changed how we work, how we organize time and even our social structure. Other inventions include the hot air balloon, vaccines, the cotton ginny, and in previous Pluto in Aquarius eras the printing press, gunpowder, and paper just to name a few. I expect whatever discoveries or inventions come out of this period will drastically alter the world as we know it.

The Powerful Fall – The previous Pluto in Aquarius eras saw the American, French and Haitian Revolutions. These were reactions by the populace against those who they felt had misused their power. In this case the monarchy and government. In a previous Pluto in Aquarius era to that one, we had the Protestant Reformation. This upended the Pope as the ultimate authority in Europe. Capricorn is about tradition, structures and authority, while Aquarius is rebellion, and humanity. There is already a growing distrust of traditional authority, it makes me wonder how the power dynamics will shift over the next 20 years. With the widening gap between rich and poor, will we see the fall of corporations and billionaires? It remains to be seen, but whatever happens, power will shift over the next two decades.

Shifts in Beliefs and Perspectives – Events during the last Pluto in Aquarius like the French and American Revolution radically altered the way we look at government and dispelled previous notions of authority that were taken for granted. This ear also saw the Industrial Revolution and the influence of scientific rational thinking came to dominate. During previous eras, the Protestant Revolution meant that spiritual authority was no longer seen as being in the Church, but rather between individuals and God. An even earlier Pluto in Aquarius era was during the reign of Constantine, who turned the Roman Empire from Pagan to Christian. During Pluto in Aquarius eras long held beliefs are challenged and we are asked to look at the world in new ways.

Being an outer planet, Pluto tends to influence things globally and politically more than personally. However, as we are all a part of society, we will each be affected by the changes this transit will bring over the next 20 years. A good way to use this energy in your own life is not to resist change, but rather to embrace it. What areas of your life do you want to revolutionize? What outdated beliefs and assumptions do you need to discard? Who have you given authority away to? These are all questions Pluto in Aquarius is asking of us now.

New Moon in Capricorn -

On Friday January 12 we have a New Moon at 20 degrees of Capricorn. New Moons are a time of new beginnings as the moon is beginning her waxing cycle, from New to Full. This is a great time to plant any metaphorical seeds you want to grow. It’s also when the Sun and Moon are in the same sign so are working together energetically. This New Moon is in the earthy and ambitious sign of Capricorn. It is a great time to set intentions in the area of career or if you are starting a business. This is also a good time to get your calendar and daily routines organized.

(Moonology Oracle)

This Capricorn New Moon is especially positive as it makes favourable aspects to the outer planets. The Moon makes a trine with Uranus the planet of chaos, sudden change and inspiration. This brings opportunities to take action on any inspirations or to turn changes to our advantage. Also supporting this is Neptune, the planet of imagination and spirituality, which sextile the Moon. We are being asked to dream big and not limit ourselves now. The final aspect is a conjunction with Pluto the planet of death, transformation and power. Pluto brings us the power to let go of what doesn’t serve us and to make profound and long lasting changes.

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon is “A Relay Race”. This suggests that cooperation is important in whatever goals we set. None of us achieve things alone. It’s important that we learn from those that went before and then try to pass along our gifts to benefit others.

The New Moon is also conjunct the fixed star Dhaneb. This lends us a commanding nature and the ability to gain favours and promotions. It does warn to act with justice and integrity and to avoid stepping on others or doing something underhanded, as it will catch up to us.

Overall this is a great time to set powerful intentions for your career. Don’t limit your imagination and dream big. You never know what wonderful opportunities are going to come up for you!

Mercury in Sagittarius - Big Ideas and Visions for the Future

Mercury moves into fun loving and adventurous Sagittarius on Thursday November 09, where he will be until December 01. Mercury is about travel and communication, and when he moves into Sagittarius, he encourages to think big and to expand our minds. Sagittarius is about religion, philosophy, foreign travel and larger ideas. It is also about fun, laughter and adventure. Mercury encourages us move away from the inner reflection of when he was in Scorpio, and to get out an explore and share our ideas with the world. This is a wonderful time for just having fun with friends and for laughing and enjoying ourselves. Mercury in Sagittarius reminds us that not everything needs to be so serious all the time.

Astro Codes Oracle

Sagittarius is also about the bigger questions of life like politics, religion and philosophy. When Mercury is in Sagittarius we often want to talk about these subjects and learn more about them. It can be a great time to discuss these as long as we are open to other people’s point of view and avoid taking a dogmatic approach, which can be a down side of Sagittarius. As long as we keep our sense of humour and don’t take everything personally, we may be able to expand our point of view. The other way we can explore the world is through travel, and Mercury in Sagittarius favours long distance travel. This is a great time overall to go on a trip, or to plan one. There are some challenges to this later in the month as I will discuss below.

Mercury makes some positive and some challenging aspects this month. The first is on November 10 when he makes a square with Saturn in Pisces. Communication and travel will be more difficult on this day as we run into barriers and have to face our limitations. Saturn sees our big Sagittarian dreams and reminds throws the cold water on them. More positive aspects are on the 15th and 20th of the month. The first is a pleasant sextile with Venus in Libra that makes for harmonious communication and is also good for creative writing or for party planning. The second is on November 20th when Mercury trines Chiron in Aries, which brings the opportunity for healing conversation, pr we may receive some important information that helps us. On November 27 Mercury makes a square with Neptune in Pisces, which can create travel difficulties in the from of confusion or delays due to a storm. It is also a time where misinformation and deception are more likely.

Mercury in Sagittarius brings some challenges this month, but overall lends a positive energy to November. This is a great time to also think of your plans and vision for the upcoming year, 2024.

Venus in Libra - Healing Through Beauty

On Wednesday November 08, Venus the planet of love and beauty enters her home sign of Libra, where she will be until December 04. Libra is a sign that is about balance, harmony, partnership and beauty, so it’s no wonder that Venus feels great when she is in this sign. When Venus is in Libra we are inclined to be more conciliatory with others and to focus on working together towards a common goal. This is a great time for partnership and romance as we are focused on the “we” rather than the “me” and are inclined to see the other person’s perspective better. There is an emphasis on finding the beauty in the other and wanting to have everything go smoothly. Libra likes things to be balanced, so Venus in this placement does not like it when things are upsetting or in conflict. This is not just for romantic partnerships, but any in our lives, whether it be friendship, family or co-workers. We want others to get along and it can make us feel unbalanced and ungrounded when there is any discord. As we are all aware, things have been very difficult for many throughout the world this past month, so I am hoping that the energy of Venus in Libra will help to bring a more conciliatory tone. One downside to this placement is that sometimes we are so focused on the other, that we compromise too much of ourselves.

Astro Codes Oracle

The other emphasis of Venus in Libra is on beauty and the arts. Venus’ other home sign, Taurus, is all about the beauty of nature. Libra is about human made beauty, like art, music, architecture, and home or garden décor. The next few weeks are a great time to indulge in the creative arts, whether making something or decorating for the holidays, or by getting out and enjoying art. This is a wonderful time to go to an art gallery, attend a concert or to shop for clothes. It’s also a great time to get a beauty treatment, go to the spa, or get your hair done. Even amidst challenges and difficulty, we all need beauty and creativity to help lift up our souls and to help us to stay optimistic. As long as we are not in denial of our difficulties, then a little escapism into beauty can be okay.

Venus has some healing aspects this month as she travels through the sign of Libra. On November 15 she makes a sextile to Mercury in Sagittarius. This gives us an opportunity to have some pleasant conversations and is a great time for creative writing or for planning an event like a party or a show. On November 22 Venus is opposite Chiron, which can confront us with some issues that need healing, specifically around issues of beauty, creativity, or femininity. While initially unsettling, this situation presents us with an opportunity to heal and work through these issues.

My hope is that this positive placement of Venus in Libra for the rest of November can help to balance some of the more difficult energies and help us smooth out and adjust to any of the changes brought on by the eclipses in October. Venus invites us to bring harmony and balance to our relationships, and to bring more beauty and creativity into our environments this month.

Full Moon in Aries - Seeing Both Sides

On Friday September 29, we will have a Full Moon at 6 degrees of Aries. This Full Moon is unusual in that it does not have any aspects other than the opposition to the Sun. Full Moons are a time of balance or choice as the Sun is in the opposite sign to the Moon. This Full Moon, the Sun is in partner focused Libra. During Libra season we are asked to create harmony and balance, and to look at what is fair and just in our relationships. We are also asked to compromise and to create beauty in the world around us. With the Moon in fiery Aries, our emotions turn our attention towards the self. Where have we compromised too much? Have we focused so much on the “other” that we have forgotten our own needs? This Full Moon we are asked to think about how we can retain our individuality within partnerships. We may also be asked to take the lead and stand up for justice or for our creative voice.

This Full Moon is also unusual in that the North Node has moved into the sign of Aries, however this lunation is not an eclipse. Usually eclipses occur when the a New or Full Moon falls into the same sign as the Nodes. However the Full Moon is at 6 degrees and the North Node is at 24 degrees of Aries, so they are far enough away that an eclipse does not occur. However the next two lunations will be eclipses. In October we will have a Solar Eclipse in the sign of Libra and a Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Taurus. This is a transition period between the Taurus/Scorpio eclipse axis which we are leaving, and the Aries/Libra eclipse axis which we are entering for the next year. So while this Full Moon is not an eclipse, it can be seen as a precursor to the upcoming eclipses in October and in 2024. Eclipses are times of endings, beginnings and revelations, so watch what themes pop up for you around this Full Moon. They are clues as to what the coming eclipses hold for you.

Also on this day there is a square between Venus in Leo and Uranus in Taurus. Squares between Venus and Uranus point to unusual events that disrupt our sense of what is harmonious or beautiful. You may meet unusual people, particularly women, or be confronted by forms of art or music that challenge us. Venus is in loud, creative and glamourous Leo, making her way forward after her retrograde journey this past summer. She is helping us to tie up any loose ends and integrate the lessons from this summer, particularly in the Leo house of your chart. In the sign of Leo this tends to manifest as breakups, drama and scandal. Uranus is the planet of chaos, sudden change and inspiration. In Taurus, when activated, this placement can show up as earthquakes, strikes, protests, and the rebellion of those who idealize nature or the past. Venus in Leo square Uranus in Taurus can be disruptions in the outer world that cause drama and scandal.

The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon is A Man Successfully Expressing Himself in Two Realms at Once. This symbol is about the ability to see both sides of a situation and to hold two ideas as both true at the same time. I think the Sabian symbol holds the key to the challenges this week’s Full Moon presents us with. Can we see that both partnership and individuality can be in harmony? That both integrity and compromise can be achieved? Can we make beauty out of the chaos and drama that may disrupt our sense of order? Finding the balance is what will help us navigate this Full Moon.

New Moon in Virgo - Healthy Habits

On Thursday September 14, 2023 we have a New Moon at 21 degrees of Virgo. New Moons occur when the Sun and Moon are in the same sign, so the solar energies of the conscious mind are working together with the lunar energies of the subconscious. This is why it’s a great time to set a goal as the two energies are in sync with each other. Also this is the start of the lunar cycle, so ideas planted now will grow as the Moon waxes in the sky.

Virgo is a sign that is analytical, detail oriented and practical. It tends to rule topics like health, routines and how we are of service to the world. The Virgo New Moon is a great time to set goals in any of these areas. Are you looking to revamp your daily routine? Do you have a specific health goal? Or want to start a new job? This is a great New Moon to set intentions or do spell work for this.

The day after on Friday September 15, Mercury retrograde in Virgo ends. Mercury stations and will start moving forward again. Mercury rules travel and communication, so if we have been feeling frustrated, or stuck things will start to become more smooth and momentum will increase.

The New Moon has a couple of positive aspects to it, in the form of a trine to Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus. Jupiter helps bring positive energy, optimism and growth to your goals. Uranus supports the New Moon with inspiration and lets us see options we maybe overlooked before.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “A Royal Coat of Arms”. This symbol tells us that we are being asked to set goals with integrity and to make sure that we are setting a good example to others. It also asks us to make sure our goals our in alignment with our spiritual values.

All these aspects make for a great New Moon for setting new healthy goals and routines that will carry us forward in a life more in alignment with our Higher Selves.

Blue Moon in Pisces - Melancholoy Dreams

On Wednesday August 30 we will have a Blue Moon in the sign on Pisces. A Blue Moon is an unusual occurrence, as it is the second Full Moon in a month. Thus the phrase “once in a blue moon”. This can only happen when we have The first Full Moon in the first day or two of the month, as we did this August. All Full Moons are a time of heightened emotions as we reach the culmination of the waxing lunar phase. However Blue Moons add an extra spark of magic, letting us know that anything is possible. With this Blue Moon in the romantic sign of Pisces, it’s a great time to dream big, and to release those big dreams to the Universe, assured they will come back to us in the right time and form for our highest good.

Moonology Cards

This Full Moon is at 7 degrees of Pisces, opposite the Sun in practical Virgo. The Sun has us focusing on the practical and on getting organized and back into routine. However our emotional and subconscious side ruled by the Moon, wants us to reach for the stars. We want to take a break from the hard work of Virgo and find time to daydream of what might be possible. This Full Moon we are being asked to keep our feet planted firmly on the ground (Virgo) but to take the time to look up at the heavens (Pisces). It’s okay to take a break, in fact you probably need to, but don’t be taken away so far by fantasy and escapism that you don’t get anything done.

Also lending a more serious tone to this lunation is Saturn who is conjunct the Full Moon. This aspect can lead to a feeling of melancholy and even despair, as Saturn rules limitations and responsibility, while the Moon wants to escape into daydream in spiritual Pisces. Being reminded of our responsibilities can lead to feeling sorry for ourselves. There is a temptation to shut ourselves away and write sad poetry now. It’s not the worst idea, as a positive way to use this aspect is in putting our creative fantasies (Moon) into practical form (Saturn).

The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon is “A Girl Blowing a Bugle”. This Full Moon can herald a time of change. Our fantasies may stir us to take action now. If we want to change our lives and make our dreams real, we are going to have to make actual changes. Will we answer the call? This symbol also speaks to rebellious individuals pointing the way to growth and change in the collective. This can come in the form of protest, or through controversial art, music or film that challenges the old ways and thinking.

Overall this Full Moon is one where we can get some inspiration, and use that energy to spark practical changes. If we want our dreams to become more than a fantasy, we are going to have to do something to make it happen. We are asked to name our big dream and then get to work on it. We might then just be surprised at how the Universe delivers it. After all it is a Blue Moon.

Advice for Mercury Retrograde in Virgo

This week on Wednesday August 23 Mercury began his retrograde period, which will last until September 15, 2023. While I know there is a lot of superstition around Mercury retrograde periods, I think it is helpful to know that while this time does come with some challenges, there are also some wonderful benefits to this time too. Mercury goes retrograde three times a year, for a period of roughly three weeks. This year all three retrograde periods occur in earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), which means they tend to affect us on a more practical level. This can include delays in travel and communication devices breaking down. There may also be repairs need on cars, planes, trains etc.

Astro Codes Oracle

We can’t put our lives on hold every time a planet goes retrograde, so please don’t cancel your trip or stop talking to people just because its Mercury retrograde. I caution people during this period to build in extra time when travelling, and to double check you have your tickets passport etc. before leaving. When it comes to communication, be as clear as you can and ask for clarification from others. It is a great time to repair things, to edit and revise old work, and to clean and organize. Below is my advise for this particular Mercury retrograde period.

  1. Revamp your routine – This retrograde is in the sign of Virgo, which is all about your day to day routines and health. Virgo is an organized and analytical sign, so it’s a great time to take a look at your schedule and see where you might be able to add more healthy habits into it. Are you exercising? Making time for rest? Have you gotten off track during the summer? This is the time to revise things and maybe try something new to see if it works for you.

  1. Get organized – Mercury and the Sun are both in Virgo for the whole retrograde period, which means there is a focus on getting organized. The back to school energy is in the air, so it’s a good time to look through your stationary and office or art supplies and see what is used up, what can be repurposed and what you might need more of. It’s a good idea to do this before you go to the store, or you might end up getting too much of one thing and not enough of the other.

  1. Clean house – Mercury retro in Virgo is trine Pluto in Capricorn, so the planet of death and transformation is lending his support for this period. This makes it the perfect time to discard what is outdated, broken beyond repair, or things that remind us of bad memories. Pluto advises us to mourn the past and to let it go, so we can move forward again once Mercury retro is over.

  1. Take a look at your finances – Mercury is also trine Jupiter in Taurus for the retrograde. Jupiter is all about expansion and luck and in the sign of Taurus there is a focus on money and material wealth. He also turns retrograde on September 05, making this a good time to review your finances. Take a look at your budget and see where you can cut expenses, especially look at subscriptions or services you aren’t really using. It’s also a good time to consider your values and see if the way you are spending your money and time aligns with what is truly important to you.

  1. Slow down and breathe – This retrograde period Mercury is opposite both Neptune and Saturn in the romantic and spiritual sign of Pisces. This can lead to frustration when our efforts to re-organize or make health changes run up against either misinformation or misunderstanding (Neptune) or other peoples boundaries (Saturn). Even if we try to explain and are completely backed up with facts and reason, others may say no or throw up roadblocks for reason that seem emotional or illogical. If you encounter this, slow down and don’t try to push the issue. Be patient, and do what you can in the meantime. When Mercury starts moving forward again, things should clear up.

Top 5 Dos and Don'ts for Venus Retrograde

On July 22, 2023 Venus, the planet of love, beauty and art enters it’s retrograde period, where it will be until September 03, 2023. A retrograde period is when a planet, in this case Venus, appears to move backwards in the sky. Of course, it does not actually change direction, it only appears to due to the differing speeds at which the Earth and the planet are moving in relation to each other. You have probably heard of Mercury retrograde, the most famous of them, but each planet goes through a retrograde period, which varies in length and frequency depending on the planet. In Venus’ case, the retrograde period lasts about 40 days and occurs every 18 months or so.

Astro Codes Oracle

This year Venus goes retrograde in the fiery, dramatic and extroverted sign of Leo. And while all Venus retrogrades have some similar themes, the sign it occurs in will add a slightly different tone to the period. Below is my guide of Top 5 Dos and Top 5 Don’ts for this summer’s Venus retrograde in Leo.

Top 5 Don’ts

  1. Don’t Take Back Your Ex (unless you want drama) – Venus retrogrades are notorious for bringing old flames back into your life. Venus is about love and when she moves retrograde she is busy looking back on the past, which can make us nostalgic for what was. It’s easy to remember the good times and forget about why you broke up with your ex in the first place. If you are single this may not be the worst thing, as you might need to revisit what was and confirm to yourself why you left. However, leaving a present good relationship for someone from the past is not a good idea. By the time the retrograde is over in September, you will most likely have broken up with them again.

  1. Don’t Get Involved in Scandals – Venus retrogrades have a tendency to expose all sorts of scandals, and with this one being in Leo, you know that means lots of drama. If you have been up to something you shouldn’t have, it may come to light at this time. If it does, do your best to lay low. There will be fall out and consequences, but avoid making things worse with dramatic declarations and displays. For all of us it is a time when we often hear of shocking secrets and scandalous behavior, particularly when it comes to people’s romantic lives.

  1. Don’t Cut Your Hair – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people I know either cut their hair or dye it dramatically during a Venus retrograde, only to hate it afterwards. While this can be a good time to experiment or to think about changes, hold off on any long term or permanent changes to your appearance. If you want to make a change, wait until October and see then if you still want it. And definitely do not get anything permanent like a tattoo!

  1. Don’t Throw Out Your Clothes – Venus retrograde wants us to reevaluate our style, but hold off on pitching your closet until afterwards. It is a good time to experiment and try new looks, but again, you may feel differently once this transit is over. You can sort clothes and put any you don’t like aside for now, but be ready to reevaluate it all again in the Fall.

  1. Don’t Do Major Renos to Your Home – Venus is all about aesthetics, and during her retrograde phase its natural for us to reevaluate our style. Not just our fashion sense, but also our environments too. It can be a great time to do research, and to think about what we might want to do to our home and to make small changes. Avoid any long lasting renos or remodeling, for the same reason as above. Once the retrograde phase is over you may have a change of heart and then be stuck with those changes to your home for quite a while.

Top 5 Dos

  1. Do Review Your Relationships – This is a great time to reassess what you want from the relationships in your life. If you are in a couple, it’s a great time to reflect on your partnership and see if it still working for both of you. Relationships that are on the rocks often come apart during a Venus retrograde. However strong relationships don’t need to worry, as the time to reflect and review will only make things better for the future. For single people this can be good time to think about what they want in a potential future partnership. It’s also a time to review not only romantic partnerships, but friendships too, as Venus rules these relationships as well.

  1. Do Get in Touch With Old Friends – Is there a friend you haven’t spoken to in ages? Someone you would love to catch up with? Venus retrograde is the perfect time to reconnect with old friends. Whether for a trip down memory lane, or to resolve an old issue, this time can be great for healing old friendships and reconnecting with those from your past. You may also experience people you haven’t seen or heard from in a long time reaching out to you. Be open to the messages those from your past may be sending you now.

  1. Do Look to the Past for Inspiration – Venus retrograde is a great time to get your “retro” vibes on. When the planet of beauty looks backwards it is time to get inspired by what came before. You might notice more vintage and retro styles popping up and may find yourself looking to trends from past decades. Or you may look to styles you rocked in your own past for some inspiration.

  1. Do Experiment With Your Style – While it is good advice not to do anything long lasting or permanent to your personal style, this is an excellent time to do some experimentation. Venus is in review mode, so it’s a good time to reevaluate your sense of personal style, and ask yourself how you can refine it to make it more you.  As Venus is in Leo she wants us to have fun and dare to be a little more bold and dramatic this summer. It’s a good time to have some fun with makeup and clothes and wear things we may not usually. When the retrograde is done, we will end up with a better sense of what fits us and what doesn’t.

  1. Do Enjoy Activities from the Past – Leo rules youth and childhood, and when Venus is in retrograde here, she wants us to have fun revisiting activities from our past. What did you used to love to do but haven’t done in a long time? Has it been ages since you went to an amusement park? Or went to the beach? Did you used to love going to the park with friends but can’ remember the last time you did so? This is a great time to relive some of those fun childhood and youthful memories. Its summer time, so let yourself have a little fun again.

Overall Venus retrogrades are not as disruptive or stressful as some of the other planet’s retrograde periods. It can be a great time to evaluate your relationships, both romantic and friendships, to reconnect with those from our past, and to reassess our style. Just don’t do anything to long lasting to your look and avoid letting that toxic ex sweet talk you back into their arms and you should be okay. Venus in Leo - Summer Glamour and Drama

On June 05, 2023 Venus the planet of love and beauty moves into the fiery and flashy sign of Leo. While Venus usually spends about 4 weeks in a sign, this time she will be in the sign of Leo until October 08, 2023. The reason for this extended stay is that Venus will be retrograde from July 22 to September 03. This extended stay brings an extra dose of passionate and dramatic energy to everyone’s summer. Venus is how we like to experience romance, our aesthetic tastes and creative tendencies. When Venus is in Leo we want to be adored and treated like a king or queen. Flattery and lavish gifts, romantic dates and passionate declarations are all welcome when Venus visits Leo. Venus in Leo tends to express itself in over the top ways and leans towards the flashy and showy. More bling please! This is not the time for wallflowers. Venus in Leo is not afraid to stand out, be creative and put on a performance. This summer is a great time for all signs to express themselves creatively and add a little dramatic flair to their style.

Astro Code Oracle

As this Venus in Leo period involves a retrograde, it is important to note that retrogrades have a habit of returning things or people to us.  The last time we had a Venus in Leo retrograde was in 2015. Think back to that time and you may get some clues as to what might be reappearing in your life. Venus retrogrades are notorious for brining back old lovers, but they can also bring back female friends and a desire to revisit old styes and aesthetics. Expect some nostalgia and retro vibes this coming summer.

Below are your horoscopes by Rising sign for the Venus in Leo period (June 5 – October 08). If you don’t know your Rising, you can look at your Sun sign for guidance.

Aries – Leo rules your fifth house of fun, hobbies, children and romance. This summer is one to have fun and express yourself! Venus in Leo will bring drama to your romantic life. If you are single you may start a new romance, or have an old romantic partner return to you.  If partnered, there may be a desire for more fun and adventure in your love life and to revisit old activities and places. This time also highlights children, and childhood. You may introduce your children to games, toys or music from your own childhood, or just revisit these things yourself for the fun of it. Another possibility is that you may reconnect with a childhood friend.

Taurus – Venus will be in your fourth house of home and family this summer and early fall. This brings a desire to beautify your living space and to make fun memories with your family. There may also be a desire to reconnect with older relatives or extended family members that you have not seen in a while, particularly during the retrograde period. You may receive furniture or mementos from older family members or from your childhood home. With Venus in fiery Leo, you are wanting to bring more warmth, sunlight and a little luxury into your living space this summer.

Gemini – Leo rules your third house of communication, siblings, and neighbours. Expect there to be some drama and passion in your communications this summer, particularly with siblings. You are feeling intensely about something and need to tell the world, or at least those closest to you about it. Old issues may resurface during the retrograde period which can be where the drama comes in. This can be an important time to clear the air, as long as you are willing to listen, and not just push your point of view. The other possibility is that you receive a message from an old lover or an old friend that you haven’t heard from in a long time. This summer can be a great time to go on a road trip, especially to a place that holds fond memories for you.

Cancer – Leo rules your second house of finances and values and with Venus here until October 2023, you may experience an increase during this time in your income. The second house is income we earn, so don’t expect it to fall into your lap. However there will be opportunities to make more money coming your way. There will be the temptation to spend this new money on luxuries and fun, after all Leo loves the little extras. Try to balance it out by giving yourself a few treats while saving for the long term. During the retrograde period, you may have a debt you are owed paid out to you.

Leo - Venus will be in your first house of self-image this summer bringing some glamour and pizzaz to your personal style. Venus retrogrades are a notoriously bad time for drastically changing your style or your hair. If you are planning on doing anything dramatic, wait until the retrograde is over as you may feel differently. It is a good time to experiment with retro fashion, or do something non long lasting to your hair (like a semi-permanent coulour). Just don’t throw out your whole wardrobe or get that pixie cut quite yet. You might be obsessed now, but will change your mind in October again. In the meantime have some fun and enjoy being the centre of attention this summer.

Virgo – Venus will spend the summer in your twelfth house of the subconscious, the shadow and institutions. This looks like a quieter summer for you socially, but that doesn’t mean it will be boring. Venus in Leo invites you to practice self-care and to spend time romancing yourself and adding beauty to your inner world. This is also a great time to work on creative projects and hobbies that are just for fun. It’s all about enhancing your private inner world and letting your imagination play. During the retrograde period you may find yourself looking to past interests and projects for inspiration. This placemen can also raise the possibility of a secret love affair. Take note that when Venus goes retrograde, the secret will likely come out.

Libra – Leo rules your eleventh house of friends and community, and with Venus here you can expect your social life to pick up. Venus spotlights  female friendships in particular, and you may find that you are hearing from female friends that you haven’t talked to in a while. Venus in Leo here also highlights creative groups, so you may find yourself working with others on an artistic project or goal this summer. By working together you can create something amazing, just don’t get sidetracked by any drama. Use that passion in your creative work! This placement may also bring a former romantic partner into your social circle.

Scorpio – Venus brings some creative energy to your career this summer. Venus is the planet of beauty and art, so you could see some aesthetic improvements in your workplace, or find yourself working on more creative projects. Venus also brings more social engagements and fun to your career and public life, so don’t be afraid to get out there and network. Let you light shine for others to see! During the retrograde, old clients or colleagues may come into the picture again and you may see recognition for past work efforts. One other possibility during this time is a workplace romance, as Venus is the planet of love and romance.

Sagittarius – Your ninth house of travel, education, religion and philosophy is being visited by Venus all summer long. You have a desire to travel and see beautiful art, architecture and experience culture. Even if you can’t get out of town, make time to get out to an art gallery or fun cultural event. This is also a good time to sign up for art, music or dance lessons and to explore an old creative hobby or interest. If you are looking for a romantic partner you may meet them this summer when you are travelling or attending a creative event. During the retrograde period, you may even run into an old friend or romantic partner.

Capricorn – Venus is in your eight house of debts, shared resources, sex and spirituality until October this year, bringing the desire for fun, pleasure and luxury to this area. This can be a good time to invest or to purchase or improve property that you hold with another. This summer might also see you receive something of beauty or value from someone else. Avoid going into debt, even if you think something is too beautiful or luxurious to not buy, as you will regret it after the retrograde period ends. This placement can also bring some fun and adventure in the bedroom.

Aquarius – Your seventh house of marriage and partnerships is being graced by the planet of love this summer and early fall. This is a wonderful time to find a partner if you are single and to bring some fun and romance to any existing partnerships. Your partner may do something to improve or change up their appearance, or they may find themselves engaging in a creative project. You may also partner up with someone to work on a creative project yourself. Things just work better when you are working with another right now. This placement especially may see old romantic interests popping up again from the past. Remember that you don’t have to revisit things if you don’t want to.

Pisces – Venus will be in your sixth house of work, service, routines and health until October. This is a good time to find ways to enhance your health and beauty routines, and to revisit some old habits that worked for you in the past, but you had let go of. It is also a great time to get beauty or health treatments, or to make a spa date. Try to add some fun or creative activities to your schedule too as Venus wants your day to day activities to have some more joy. Venus in Leo in your sixth house might also see a new pet come into your life this summer.
