Blue Moon in Sagittarius - A Golden Opportunity

 On Sunday May 31 we have a rare Blue Moon in the sign of Sagittarius. A Blue Moon is the second full moon in a month, a once in every two- or three-year occurrence. Thus, the saying "once in a blue moon" to mean something that happens rarely. Blue Moons are considered to be extra powerful, due to their rareness. This one is at 9 degrees of Sagittarius, a sign that is about expansiveness, adventure and big ideas. Full Moons occur when the Sun and Moon are in opposite signs, and are a time of culmination, choices and heightened emotion. With the Sun in Gemini, we have been focused on socializing, sharing ideas, communication and small adventures. The Full Moon in Sag comes along to remind us to look at the big picture, to dream big and plan for bigger and bolder adventures. This is a time to have fun and expand our view of the world.

This Full Moon is supported by a trine to Saturn in Aries and a sextile with Pluto in Aquarius. Saturn brings structure and material support to our big plans and goals. We are being asked to dream big, but not to leave it in the realm of fantasy. Saturn in Aries encourages us to take concrete action to make those big ideals real. What steps can we take today to bring them into our everyday reality. Pluto assists us through changes in the wider world, particularly through new technologies, and community support. We cannot go backwards to the way things used to be but rather must adapt to the world and the changes it presents to us. 

The Nodes are squaring the Blue Moon in Virgo and Pisces. The Nodes have associations with fate and karma. Changes that we make now have a sense of destiny to them. You may feel both a push to make changes and move forward, but also a desire to resist and stay in our comfort zone. The North Node in Pisces pushes us to think spiritually and to imagine possibilities, while the South Node in Virgo fusses over the details and may hinder us by giving us excuses as to why the changes feel too big to make. It's important to remember that you have been through changes before and can handle it again. Also, on this day, Mercury in Gemini makes a sextile with Chiron in Aries. This aspect brings us important messages around healing old wounds, particularly around our sense of self and identity. Watch for what triggers you or what resonates on this day as the Universe is bringing important messages now to help you move forward.

Not only is it a powerful lunation, but it is a lucky one where fate is pushing us to grow, and we are being supported by the Universe in making bold changes. Full Moon in Sagittarius - Healing Through Creativity

 On Wednesday June 11 we have a Full Moon at 20 degrees of Sagittarius. Full Moons occur when the Sun and Moon are in opposite signs. In this case the Sun is in social and communicative Gemini and the Moon in adventurous and big picture thinking Sagittarius. During Gemini season we are focused on communicating with friends, learning new ideas, gathering facts and taking short trips or errands. The Full Moon in Sagittarius reminds us to not forget the forest for the tress and to take a step back and think about the larger ideas like philosophy, religion and politics. It also asks us to dream big and to imagine what grand adventures we want to have in the future. This makes this Full Moon a good time to look at our long term plans and re-evaluate our daily routines to see if they contribute to our overall goals.

This Full Moon has several positive aspects to it, including a trine to both Mars in Leo and Chiron in Aries. Mars and Chiron are lending supporting energy to make this an uplifting and energizing time. Mars in Leo encourages us to take the lead and to express ourselves creatively. The Full Moon is asking us to examine our long-term goals, and Mars in Leo wants us to start taking action towards them. Chiron is the wounded healer and in Aries he wants us to look at where our sense of self-expression or individuality has been hurt. What can we do to facilitate healing in our lives? 

Also, on this day Mercury in Cancer is making a sextile to Venus in Taurus. This is a lovely aspect for creativity especially in the fields of creative writing, poetry or song writing. Mercury is about language and in Cancer, he wants us to express our feelings. With Venus the planet of love, beauty and relationships in earthy Taurus, this is best expressed through making art. Expressing our feelings of love and friendship is highlighted now, and especially so if we can do that by making art, music and poetry. Be open to inspiration this Full Moon.

The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon in "A Child and a Dog Wear Borrowed Glasses". This is a rather silly image of a kid trying on glasses and then putting them on a dog. But sometimes silliness and lightheartedness are called for. Don't take everything so seriously now. This speaks to how humour and joy can be healing for us. It also is about how children learn by imitating the adults around them. The child tries on glasses because he sees the adults wearing them and wants to try it out. If we are wanting to try something new, we have to follow those who have gone before. As the saying goes "fake it until you make it." You don't have to reinvent the wheel. You can learn from those who have gone before.

Overall, this is a very positive Full Moon that brings with it healing through creativity and lightheartedness. Express your feelings creatively and don't be so serious about everything. Take time to look at your long term goals and build some fun and adventure into your routine.

Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius - Time to Re-evaluate

 On November 25 Mercury starts his retrograde journey, going backwards from 22 degrees of Sagittarius, until December 15, when he will stop at 6 degrees of Sagittarius before moving forward again. Mercury retrograde is notorious for miscommunication and travel delays and breakdowns, however this is a very simplified interpretation of this transit. Mercury retrogrades occur about three times a year, for roughly three weeks each so is not an unusual astrological event. Mercury rules travel and communication, and when he goes into retrograde it can cause misinformation, misunderstandings, along with travel disruptions. However, Mercury retrograde can bring benefits to. It is a chance to slow down and reassess things. Mercury asks us to stop and review things before moving forward again. Is there something we need to edit? Do our plans need adjusting? Sometimes mercury retrograde can bring people and events from the past to us for reevaluation and to help us process or resolve things.

This retrograde period is entirely in the sign of Sagittarius. This is a fiery sign, that likes to have fun and go on adventures, however this is not a great time to do something risky or take chances, as they are more likely to go sideways now. Mercury in Sagittarius is also infamous for putting ones foot in ones mouth, by being too blunt or by blurting things out without thinking it through. This tendency will become more pronounced now, and can lead to misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Watch what you say to others and if someone says something to you that seems rude or hurtful, ask for clarification, as they may not have meant it. 

 

Sagittarius is associated with big picture thinking. It rules politics, philosophy, religion and higher learning, along with the law and foreign travel. During this Mercury Retrograde I anticipate that there may be travel disruptions and issues with supply chains and shipping. If you are traveling overseas at this time, double check your plans and paperwork, and be prepared for delays. There also may be increasing misinformation around political or religious issues now. This is a time when we will be collectively re-examining recent political shifts, so watch for changes and adjustments to recent decisions. We may also be examining these areas in our own lives to see what needs to be adjusted, particularly any plans we have for the new year. Has our priorities shifted and changed since last year? This is a good time for reassessment.

 

All in all Mercury Retrograde brings both challenges and benefits. If you have a lot of Sagittarius placements or planets between 6 and 22 degrees of other fire or mutable signs, you may feel this one more than others. While the delays and misunderstandings may cause some frustration, this can be a fruitful time if we use the energy to reassess and review thing before moving forward again.

Mercury in Sagittarius - Big Ideas and Visions for the Future

 

Mercury moves into fun loving and adventurous Sagittarius on Thursday November 09, where he will be until December 01. Mercury is about travel and communication, and when he moves into Sagittarius, he encourages to think big and to expand our minds. Sagittarius is about religion, philosophy, foreign travel and larger ideas. It is also about fun, laughter and adventure. Mercury encourages us move away from the inner reflection of when he was in Scorpio, and to get out an explore and share our ideas with the world. This is a wonderful time for just having fun with friends and for laughing and enjoying ourselves. Mercury in Sagittarius reminds us that not everything needs to be so serious all the time.

Sagittarius is also about the bigger questions of life like politics, religion and philosophy. When Mercury is in Sagittarius we often want to talk about these subjects and learn more about them. It can be a great time to discuss these as long as we are open to other people’s point of view and avoid taking a dogmatic approach, which can be a down side of Sagittarius. As long as we keep our sense of humour and don’t take everything personally, we may be able to expand our point of view. The other way we can explore the world is through travel, and Mercury in Sagittarius favours long distance travel. This is a great time overall to go on a trip, or to plan one. There are some challenges to this later in the month as I will discuss below.

Mercury makes some positive and some challenging aspects this month. The first is on November 10 when he makes a square with Saturn in Pisces. Communication and travel will be more difficult on this day as we run into barriers and have to face our limitations. Saturn sees our big Sagittarian dreams and reminds throws the cold water on them. More positive aspects are on the 15^th and 20^th of the month. The first is a pleasant sextile with Venus in Libra that makes for harmonious communication and is also good for creative writing or for party planning. The second is on November 20th when Mercury trines Chiron in Aries, which brings the opportunity for healing conversation, pr we may receive some important information that helps us. On November 27 Mercury makes a square with Neptune in Pisces, which can create travel difficulties in the from of confusion or delays due to a storm. It is also a time where misinformation and deception are more likely.

Mercury in Sagittarius brings some challenges this month, but overall lends a positive energy to November. This is a great time to also think of your plans and vision for the upcoming year, 2024.
