Pluto in Capricorn - Tieing Up Loose Ends

On September 01, 2024, Pluto will dip back into the sign of Capricorn for one last time, before moving back into Aquarius on November 19, 2024. Pluto moves very slowly around the zodiac, taking 248 years to complete a cycle. As such, it only moves forward a couple of degrees a year, and spends about half of the year in retrograde. Since May of 2023, Pluto has been going back and forth between the last degrees of Capricorn and the first few degrees of Aquarius. Pluto entered Aquarius May – July of 2023 and gave us a sneak peek, a trailer if you will, of what is to come for the next twenty years of Pluto in Aquarius (2023 – 2044). Pluto then went back into Capricorn, and re-entered Aquarius in January of this year. This autumn he dips one last time back into Capricorn to clean things up and tie up any loose ends before moving out of the sign for another 248 years.

Astro Codes Oracle

Pluto is the planet that marks generations as he can spend anywhere from 12 to 20 years in a sign, due to his elliptical orbit. He represents the death of the old ways, the slow march of change over time. He clears out things that are decaying in order for new life and new ways to sprout. While Uranus represents sudden or shocking changes, Pluto is a slower transition, but one that has long lasting and profound impact. He is the lord of death and helps us to let go and grieve. With his last foray into Capricorn, it is like he has gone back briefly to clean things up in this area of our life. If you know your birth chart, look what area Capricorn rules to see where you may be saying goodbye to something or finishing things up. Particularly look to any projects or themes that started back in 2008, when he first entered this sign. Even if you don’t know your chart, Capricorn represents ambitions, career, and worldly success. It is also a sign that is focused on earthly accomplishments and authority. Look back over the last 16 years. Has your view of what counts as success changed? Is there something you started back then that you are ready to let go of? How have your ambitions changed?

Pluto also represents power. The sign Pluto is in tends to show where we invest in or express power in the world. Capricorn represents government, big corporations, institutions and traditional authority. Since 2008 we have seen corporations become bigger and have more influence over the world. We’ve also seen many of them merge and become virtual monopolies in some sectors, along with some owners becoming trillionaires. Power and wealth moved increasingly towards the minority at the top, while poverty increases and everyday necessities like housing become more and more out of reach for many. We also saw a rise of populist and fascist governments and politicians, who want to enforce their authority through repressive means. The last few months of Pluto in Capricorn may see a last gasp of those who want to maintain this old order. However, the Pluto in Aquarius era has already begun and will only continue to gain strength after this autumn. Aquarius is a sign that is about community, humanitarianism and revolution. The next 20 years will see power shift from those at the top towards communities and be more spread out rather than centralized.

Pluto also reveals where power has been abused and misused. He digs up what was secret and shows us the things those in power don’t want us to see. When Pluto was in Sagittarius (1995 – 2008), the abuses of the Church and those in religious authority came to light, as Sagittarius rules religion. The Pluto in Capricorn years started off with the banking and housing collapse in 2008. This showed us where those in financial authority had abused their power. This was also the start of protests on Wall Street and against the growing divide of rich and poor. These years also exposed government corruption and how those in authority have misused power, for example politicians flouting Covid lock down rules or trying to overturn the results of democratic elections. With Pluto’s last visit to Capricorn, we may see some new scandals in these areas emerge, or see some of these old issues get resolved now.

Overall this last dip into Capricorn is a chance for us to clean up any loose ends and to reflect on the changes we have gone through since 2008. On a world level I expect to see some issues around corruption find some resolution or more information come to light. I also expect those in traditional authority to make a last push for control. On a personal level, look to the Capricorn house to see where you need to resolve some lingering issues.

Full Moon in Capricorn - Consider Your Ambitions

We have a Full Moon on Friday June 21, the day after the Summer Solstice. Full Moons occur when the Sun and Moon are in opposite signs, and with the Sun just moving into Cancer the day before, the Moon will be at 1 degree of Capricorn now. Full Moons are a time of heightened emotions as the Moon, which represents emotions and the subconscious, is at her height. The Sun is now in watery and emotional Cancer, turning our focus to the home, family, memory, and the imagination for the next four weeks. While the Moon in Capricorn wants us to be ambitious and to not forget that we have work to accomplish in the world. Capricorn Full Moons are a time when we are asked to look at our career goals and see if they feed our heart. How can we find a good balance between work and home, between our emotional self-care and the need for outer accomplishment?

Moonology Oracle

This Full Moon is squaring Neptune in late Pisces. Neptune is a planet that signifies spirituality and a sense of oneness, but can also represent fantasy and delusion. Squares are a stressful aspect, so Neptune leans towards the delusional and even deceptive now. There is something about our desires that is fanciful and not grounded in reality, or we may be basing our beliefs on a falsehood. Watch for misinformation and disinformation in the news, especially around issues of borders, homelands, ancestry and the past. If something seems to be outrageous, or angers you, remember that it may be a falsehood. Wait for the fog to clear and you will have a better view of how things really are. This is not a good time to make any hasty decisions.

Another aspect on this day is Mercury in Cancer sextile Mars in Taurus. Mercury is communication and travel and in the sign of Cancer he wants to talk about feelings and memories of the past. Mars is action, desire and aggression. In earthy Taurus he is all about slow and steady determination. This is a great time to think about long term goals and ambitions and to make plans that resonate with your heart. There is no need to rush with Mars in Taurus, and with the foggy aspect of Sun and Moon square Neptune, there is a lack of clarity. However, there is nothing wrong with dreaming and planning. Just remember that you may need to revise your plans with more practical details later.

The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is “A Chief Demands Recognition.” This symbol talks about how we sometimes need to stand up and be in our power. We need to communicate clearly our desires and not make ourselves small to please others. It also asks us to look at who we give power and authority to. In the world we may see new leaders emerge or upstarts try to overthrow things. It is a good time to examine power dynamics and ask who is a true leader and someone we can look up to and who is a blow hard just trying to bully and control things.

Overall this Full Moon asks us to look at ambition. Do our goals and desires satisfy our hearts? Do they support our inner world and our home life? Are they based on reality, or a fantasy? These are all things to consider this Capricorn Full Moon.

New Moon in Gemini - Communication Increases

On June 06 we have New Moon in the sign of Gemini. This week sees a lot of Gemini energy with the Sun, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter all in this lively and talkative sign. Now the Moon joins in on the party and highlights the themes of communication, learning, exchanging ideas and laughter. Gemini rules all of these plus short trips, cars, anything that comes in pairs, along with siblings and neighbours. Expect to see these themes highlighted in your life and in the world around you now. New Moons occur when the Sun and the Moon are in the same sign, so are energetically working together. The Moon is also at the beginning of the waxing, or growing cycle, so any intentions made now are like a seed being planted, that can grow along with the Moon phases.

This particular Full Moon will conjunct with the other planets in Gemini, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter. The conjunction with Mercury makes this a great time for communicating your ideas with others and for any goals around writing learning, or taking a trip. It also helps us to clarify our intentions and to put them down in writing. The energy of Venus will bring a sense of love and beauty to the day, so any goals that have to do with expressing our feeling to a loved one, asking someone out or starting a creative project, particularly creative writing or poetry also bode well now. Jupiter lends positive energy and a sense of optimism, like anything is possible. This also helps with any goals around learning something new, or sharing your ideas with others.

Further supporting this New Moon is the trine with Pluto in Aquarius, bringing opportunities to make some profound changes that can revolutionize things in the long run for us. We may have to examine how we want to shift the dynamics in our lives to make our goals happen. It won’t always be easy and we may have to let some things go in order to make room for the new. On the challenging side, Saturn is squaring the New Moon, sowing us that there may be tension around limitations. We may feel frustrated or sad that we can’t be as free as we like. We may have a hard time letting old outworn ways or things go, and frustration around responsibilities. Remember that if we want something new, we have to make room for it in our lives, and that often means letting something go. At the same time, we don’t have to throw everything out or change everything all at once. Small changes over time will be much more effective in the long run.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “The Head of a Robust Youth is Changed into that of a Mature Thinker.”  This symbol emphasizes the need to think rationally, rather than reacting emotionally to things now. Well considered intentions, that take into account our wisdom and experience, are much more likely to take root and yield results rather than ones based on impulsiveness or wishful thinking. We also don’t have to be pessimistic or wet blanket our hopes either. It is more about taking a step back and looking at our hopes and dreams and thinking about what the practical doable steps are. That way we can make realistic progress towards our goals.
